Bruskey girl scores 11As in Junior Cert

Last Wednesday’s Junior Cert results proved to be a red letter moment for one young girl from Bruskey in Lacken. Shauna Lynch scored a magnificent 11A grades at Higher Level across all her subjects in the Junior Cert exams this year, writes Ultan Sherry.
“I’m ecstatic really. I never expected it at all,” Shauna told the Celt this week. “I never allowed myself to think about what I might have gotten (in advance of the results), in case I’d be disappointed,” she continued.
Shauna is originally from near the Bronx area in New York but moved to Ireland when she was aged seven years. Her father Peter is from Cavan and her mother Kathy is originally from New York, but she also has family connections in Sligo and Leitrim. Shauna also has two younger brothers and a sister - Peter, Micheal and Kate.
When asked the secret to her success, Shauna replied that there wasn’t one but that she tried to get a good balance between working on her exams and doing other things in her life too.
She’s now going into Transition Year and is looking forward to what lies ahead, including doing lots of travelling. “The best place I’ve been to is probably New York because I was born over there!” she explained.
Shauna is also going to be doing the Gaisce Bronze award this year as part of her experience. “We’re doing kayaking for the award and it’s really fun and exciting,” she explained.
As part of the award, Shauna will also be doing some community work. “I’m not quite sure yet what I’ll be doing. I have to figure that out. I might want to do some voluntary work in a charity shop or maybe spend time working with older people,” she told this reporter.

Future career
Once Shauna finishes school then, she’s thinking possibly about doing teaching but is also interested in careers in the areas of drama and science.
She’s hoping that Transition Year will give her an opportunity to discover where her career path lies.

Grateful
Shauna is extremely grateful for the help that she received throughout Junior Cert and thanked all those who helped her get there. “I’d like to thank my family for giving me the belief to succeed and my friends too. I’d like to thank my teachers as well because I couldn’t have done it without their help,” she said.
