Pathologist at tragic scene in Ballyjamesduff
Pathologist Dr Alan Curtis is at the scene of multiple killings in a rural area in Ballyjamesduff.
Gardaí are investigating the discovery of the bodies of five members of a family at a house at Oakdene, Barconey, Ballyjamesduff today.
The discovery of the body of a man in his 40s, his wife, a woman in her 30s and their three (3) sons aged 13, 11 and 6 was made at the house this morning.
It's understood that the victims have suffered knife stab wounds.
A local county councillor, Paddy Smith, said the tragedy has numbed the community.
“People are completely numb. It’s terribly terribly tragic that a whole family has been wiped out. It’s just a bolt out of the dark.
'The family were involved in the local community”.
The Garda investigation is ongoing but at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths. Senior Gardaí will hold a media briefing at Ballyjamesduff Garda station at 5pm today. August 29
