Police search Border for Belleek shooters
Detectives investigating a shooting incident in north Fermanagh yesterday morning are continuing to appeal for information across the Border region.
It is now believed that four armed and masked men arrived at a hotel on Main Street, Belleek shortly before 9.30am on Tuesday last and threatened staff.
The men, all described as wearing dark coloured overalls with white stripes and balaclavas fired one shot into the van of a contractor working at the premises before fleeing the scene.
There was no one in the van at the time and no one sustained any injuries during the incident.
The PSNI issued a statement on Wednesday morning, with Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson stating that the men swapped a number of vehicles as they made their escape.
“The men made off in a black coloured Ford Escort car in the direction of the border. A car matching the description was discovered on fire a short time later in the Derrynacross Road area of Garrison where it is believed that the 4 males then left in a second unknown vehicle. Local officers are continuing to work closely with An Garda Siochana to trace their movements.”
He furthermore appealed to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the Main Street area of Belleek at the time, or anyone who may have witnessed the men abandoning the Ford Escort car in the Derrynacross Road area of Garrison to contact detectives at Enniskillen.
