Man remanded for theft of car with child passenger

A Cavan man has been remanded in custody charged with a number of alleged road traffic offences.

The 34-year-old appeared before a special sitting of Cavan District Court last night in relation to the unauthorised taking of a car at The Diamond, Clones on Saturday 30 August at 6.30pm.

A 10-year-old girl was a backseat passenger in the car, a 161 Opel Zafira at the time.

She was located “safe and well” a distance away from where the car was taken.

The car was later located at a different location a distance from Clones and has subsequently been preserved for technical examination.

The man is due to appear in court again at Harristown District Court on Friday 4 August.
