PBP's Boyd-Barrett to speak in Cavan tonight
The Cavan branch of People Before Profit will hold its first public meeting downstairs in McGinnity’s bar in Cavan Town tonight, June 27, at 8.30pm. Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett will be speaking on the night.
People Before Profit – Anti Austerity Alliance is a radical left wing political grouping that advocates for a more equal society, achieved through people power.
In the General Election, the radical new alliance secured six Dáil seats and has 26 elected representatives in local authorities nationwide. People Before Profit also made historic gains in the recent Stormont Assembly elections by securing two seats for the radical left, with 29-year-old Gerry Carroll topping the poll for the party in West Belfast. The all island party represents the fight against austerity both North and South of the border.
Community activist and General Election candidate Emmett Smith, who was one of the organisers of the anti-water charge campaign in County Cavan, has joined People Before Profit since the election.
Mr Smith ran as an independent, polling 245 first preferences and going out after the third count. He’s encouraging members of the public to come along to the meeting next Monday.
