County's first outdoor bowling green opens

Cavan’s first outdoor bowling green was officially opened by the cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Paddy Smith, this lunchtime (May 6).
The need for a bowling green in Cavan was identified a number of years ago and was included in Cavan Sports Partnership Strategic Plan 2012. This forward planning allowed Cavan County Council in conjunction with Cavan Sports Partnership to then apply for funding provided under the Sports Nation initiative.
A joint initiative between the Department of Transport Tourism and Sport and Irish Public Bodies Insurance; the successful application in 2013 secured some €107,000 in funding and the balance, €32,000 for the development was provided by Cavan County Council. The green was completed by Clive Richardson Ltd.
With four lanes the green encourages healthy outdoor activities for all ages. Bookings can be made through Cavan Sports and Leisure Complex.
