Sinn Fein Easter Monday event to be "special, respectful, dignified"
Cavan Sinn Fein will hold their annual commemoration on Easter Monday in Cavan Town and the party says that this year’s landmark centerary will be “special, respectful and dignified”.
A parade will leave the cathedral at 2.30pm and will be led by a piper and flute band and feature re-enactments during proceedings.
“We welcome everyone to join in the parade to show solidarity in numbers to the heroes of 1916 and indeed those that died for our independence in the subsequent years,” says local councillor Eugene Greenan.
'The parade will conclude at the Courthouse where our commemoration proceedings will begin at the monument,” says the Cavan Town man who will speak on the day.
'This will be a momentous day in my life and the life of everyone in the Country. The importance of the sacrifices of those brave men and women of 1916 is something that we hold dear and as such County Cavan Sinn Fein holds a commemoration every year in the county.
'We plan on making the centenary celebrations very special indeed and the 1916 re-enactments should make it all the more interesting for the entire family. I invite the people of County Cavan to join us in our remembrance and our parade. Let’s parade in numbers to show our respect to our fallen heroes,' he said.
