Name: Nigel Gallagher

Occupation: Graphic designer with Hawk's Well Theatre

Marital Status: Single

Priorities:

The Sligo-native says he has always had a passion for social justice, however since experiencing the devastating effects of the economic crisis Mr Gallagher has become more heavily involved in political activism. “Many of my friends have been forced to emigrate and those who stayed see little optimism for the future. Poverty and inequality are destroying the social fabric of our society.

“Meanwhile, wealthy elites continue to increase their fortunes to obscene levels. This is unacceptable to me, and I have a belief and a great hope that a better future is possible and worth fighting for. Voting for me is a vote for grassroots people power, equality and social justice,” he says.

Promoting plans to build more social and affordable housing, as well as call a National Emergency on housing in order to tackle the current crisis, Mr Gallagher and PBPA if elected, also aim to utilise NAMA assets in order to fund building initiatives in communities.

Having campaigned locally for the abolition of water charges, as well as for a YES vote in the Marraige Equality referendum, Nigel wants to see an end to Irish Water, the Property Tax, and seeks to scrap the Universal Social Charge for people earning below €35,000.
