€1M for nursing homes in Cavan and Monaghan announcd

Minister for Arts Heather Humphreys has said that the announcement of more than €1 million in funding will allow for refurbishment works to be carried out at a three nursing homes in Cavan and Monaghan. The works will be carried out in 2016 and 2017.

'This investment reflects the Government’s determination to maintain the current numbers of public nursing home beds and to ensure all public nursing homes will be compliant with HIQA standards by 2021.

'In Monaghan, €750,000 will be spent on refurbishment works at Oriel House, while St Mary’s Hospital in Castleblaney will receive more than €200,000 in investment. In Cavan, the Lisdaran Unit for the Elderly will receive €100,000 for refurbishment works.

'The majority of residents in nursing homes in Cavan and Monaghan receive an excellent quality of care but some of the facilities available are not up to date. This funding will ensure that the best facilities are available for residents and their families in the future.

'We will continue to work to ensure that funding is available for important services like nursing homes and health care. Fine Gael has a long term plan to keep the recovery going. Our plan will deliver more new jobs and affordable, sustainable investments in services, like nursing homes, using the resources from growing employment.'
