Snow warning remains in place

Met Éireann has issued snow and ice warnings across the country and a 'Status Yellow' weather warning remains in place for counties Cavan and Monaghan.

The snow-ice warning for Longford, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway and Roscommon says to expect possible snow accumulations of between two to four centimetres from midnight on Wednesday until midnight on Thursday.

In neighbouring Leitrim meanwhile and for much of the North-West a Status Orange warning has been issued warning of snow accumulations of between four and eight centimetres, with the bulk of the snow likely to fall on higher ground.

Temperatures meanwhile are set to plunge as low as -2C in some counties, as Met Éireann warns that tomorrow (Thursday) will remain cold with sunshine and scattered wintry showers, most frequent in the west and north of the country.

Some showers will fall as snow, mainly in the morning and also in the evening.

Looking to the weekend already and the national forecaster predicts very cold weather after dark, with severe frost setting in under clear skies, and similar weather continuing through until next week when it is expected to become milder.
