Almost 700 jobs created locally in EI supported companies last year
Almost 10,000 people are employed by Enterprise Ireland supported companies in Cavan and Monaghan. This is an increase of almost 700 in 2015, compared with 2014, according to Enterprise Ireland.
In total, there are 185 companies in Cavan and Monaghan which are supported by Enterprise Ireland, and the news of the boost of 700 local jobs was welcomed by Minister for Arts, Heather Humphreys.
Minister Humphreys said: “The latest figures published by Enterprise Ireland this week show that the Government’s plan for job creation is working. A total of 4,819 people in Monaghan and 4,905 people in Cavan are employed in companies supported by the Department of Jobs, through Enterprise Ireland. Local companies supported by Enterprise Ireland include Combilift and Glanbia.
“Over 1,600 additional jobs have been created in EI supported companies in Cavan and Monaghan since this Government was elected. This compares with the almost 2,000 jobs which were lost in EI companies locally during the last three years of the previous Government.
“This job creation has an important knock on impact. For every job created in an EI supported company, it is estimated that one additional job is created elsewhere in the economy. These figures show that the recovery is not confined to Dublin; indeed the fastest jobs growth has been outside the capital,” she said.
Its estimated that over 135,000 new jobs have been added to the economy since the launch of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs. Unemployment has now dropped to 8.8%, and all of the regions recorded increases in full-time employment in 2015.
Minister Humphreys committed: “If this Government is re-elected, we will continue the job of replacing all the jobs lost in the crash to ensure a better quality of life for all in Cavan and Monaghan.”
