Nurses home for holidays urged to explore opportunities locally

The RCSI Hospital group, which includes Cavan General Hospital and Monaghan Hospital, has called on nurses and midwives home for the Christmas and New Year holiday period to explore what new career opportunities are on offer locally.

Running an active recruitment campaign in recent months, RCSI is desperately hoping new career packages can entice those who left the country in recent years due to lack of opportunities, many of them young graduates, back once again.

Marian Kiernan, Cavan & Monaghan Hospital Director of Nursing, said hospitals were keen to recruit new nurses and midwives.

“With so many Irish nurses and midwives coming home for Christmas from overseas, we really want them to know that the Irish health service offers tremendous opportunity for career progression. For many healthcare workers, there are greatly improved career opportunities now and I urge in particular all nurses and midwives thinking about coming home to contact Cavan General Hospital and Monaghan Hospital,” she said.

All hospitals within the Group including Beaumont Hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, Cavan General Hospital, Rotunda Hospital, Louth County Hospital and Monaghan Hospital are recruiting through social media, magazines and various specialist journals.

“There are permanent posts available in all areas of our hospitals, including promotional, specialist and advanced practice opportunities,” Ms Kiernan said.

“New graduates also have the opportunity to work in any speciality. All the hospitals within the RCSI Group support ongoing professional development and further education and can be contacted directly for more information on recruitment@rcsihospitals.ie. In collaboration with the HSE, we are able to build real scope for career advancement for ambitious healthcare workers.”
