Ballyjamesduff bogus collectors pretend to be suicide charity
Sosad in Cavan are warning people that bogus collectors are going door-to-door claiming to be from the suicide-awarenss charity group.
On their Facebook page, which can be found at 'Hope Centre', Sosad warns: '[We] have been made aware that there are individuals collecting money door to door on our behalf. We would like to make aware that we DO NOT have people collecting door to door for us and would ask everyone to be vigilant. If you have come in to contact with these individuals please contact us immediately. Thank You.'
The issue has been reported to local Gardaí.
Co-ordinator SOSAD Cavan Christine Wynne told Northern Sound radio that they don’t collect money door to door.
'We got a call saying that there were a couple of people in the Ballyjamesduff area going door-to-door saying they are collecting for Sosad, we don't do that,' Ms Wynne told the station.
'Cavan people have been so good to us I would hate to think that in any way that people might be parting with a few bob, thinking it's coming to us, when it's actually not.
'That is one thing we don't do so, like in any collection, we are asking people to ask for ID. On a couple of occasions these people were asked and of course they didn't have any,' she said.
Ballyjamesduff Garda Station is on (049) 854 4102.
