Ward restriction over C Diff at Cavan General

Visitor restrictions have been put in place at Cavan General Hospital as a precaution following an outbreak of the C Difficile infection in one ward.

Admissions to and transfers out of the ward have now been restricted, with the exception of patients being discharged to their own homes.
The Health Service Executive say all patients and staff are being monitored for symptoms, which can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.
Visitors to Cavan General are being discouraged from visiting the hospital unless absolutely necessary and the HSE is advising that children may not visit any ward areas, while flowers and fruit are also being prohibited.

'The hospital Infection Outbreak/Escalation Committee is carrying out daily assessments to review the effectiveness of these and other infection prevention and control measures that have been instigated,' a spokesperson for the HSE says.
Members of the public who have experienced vomiting and/or diarrhoea are being told they should not visit the hospital during their illness until 48-hours after their symptoms have ceased.
