'Things won't be the same without you Tommy'
Local businesses shocked and saddened at news of the death of one of the county town's best known businessmen, Thomas 'Tommy' Connolly, will pay tribute to him by forming a Guard of Honour as his remains are transferred from McMahon's Funeral Home to the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Felim later this afternoon.
As a mark of respect to the co-proprietor of local menswear shop, DT One, Cavan Chamber of Commerce have asked local businesses to join in the Guard of Honour from Cavan Bus Office, starting 5.30pm.
Mr Connolly, who died Tuesday, November 24 last, co-owned DT One with friend David Molloy.
Between them, the pair have over 50 years of experience in the clothing and retail industries, and Mr Molloy took to social media, posting on the store's Facebook page his appreciation for the many kinds messages received since Mr Connolly passed away.
“It's with great sadness and a heavy heart I'm posting this, today I lost a friend, work colleague and business partner I've had the pleasure to work alongside for the last 29 years since our early beginnings in Brendan Young's. We've been through thick and thin together over the years. Things won't be the same without you Tommy. Rest in peace my friend,” Mr Molloy wrote.
Mr Connolly's remains will be reposing at the McMahon Funeral Home, Farnham Road, Cavan on Thursday evening from 3.30pm, until removal at 5.45pm to the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Felim, Cavan arriving at 6.30pm.
Funeral Mass takes place on Friday morning at 11am, followed by Cremation at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.
