Over 520k awarded in cavan claims last year
Over €520,000 was awarded by the Injuries Board in respect of 21 public liability claims in Cavan last year, new figures show.
With an average award made of €24,829 in each case, the total paid out by the independent State body that makes statutory personal injury (PI) awards in respect of motor, employer and public liability accidents was €521,409.
The figures come as the Injuries Board revealed that July was the month that recorded the highest frequency of accidents resulting in compensation awards, while Saturday proved to be the most dangerous day of the week for public place personal injury accidents.
Nationally the Injuries Board dealt with 2,151 PL awards last year totaling €53m, compared to €44m in respect of 1,768 awards in 2013.
Over the last three years, the Injuries Board say that women are far more likely than men to suffer an accident in a public place resulting in a public liability award.
Slips, trips and falls were by far the main cause of public liability accidents, accounting for 70% of all PL awards.
