Report into baby death given to family

A FINAL report into the death of a baby at Cavan General Hospital has been made available to the family involved, however, the HSE has thus far refused to confirm which of the four maternity cases currently under investigation at the local facility the report is attached to.
Last month, Minister for Health Leo Varadkar told the Dáil that a review into the death of baby Jamie Flynn from Navan in November 2012 was “due shortly”.
He added that a draft report into a case which occurred in April 2014 was also completion, while a review into the death a third infant in May 2014 is still under way. 
A review team is currently being finalised in relation to the most recent infant death, which occurred earlier this year.
A spokesperson for the HSE confirmed that one of the reviews is complete, adding that the family have requested privacy and time to consider the report.
Despite pressure to do so, on a recent visit to Cavan hospital, Minister Varadkar refused to commit to publishing the details of the reports, including any recommendations which some have claimed would assist in restoring public confidence in the maternity services at CGH.

New general manager
Separately, a new general manager is set to take over at Cavan-Monaghan Hospital Group next week, the HSE has confirmed.
Mairead Lyons will leave her role as Acting Director of Nursing at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, to take over from current general manager, Ms Bridget Clarke.
Ms Clarke is set to move to the position of general manager at the RCSI Hospital Group, which includes facilities across the Dublin North East region: Beaumont Hospital; Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda; Connolly Hospital; Cavan General Hospital; Rotunda Hospital; Louth County Hospital; Monaghan Hospital. Ms Lyons will take up the position on July 6.
