Videoour newlook celt out today

This week's Anglo Celt (dated 23rd April) is our first new-look compact published in smaller, more reader-friendly format. The Celt’s new shape marks a significant change for the 169-year-old newspaper, which has been the voice of County Cavan since it was first founded in 1846.

In making the change, we listened to our readers. People today are busier and largely on the move. You want a newspaper that is more accessible and reader friendly, sitting alongside our www.anglocelt.ie web platform and facebook/twitter which have over 16,000 followers between them. In bringing you that, we also tried to make our news stories a little shorter - getting more of them in.

We had a redesign to bring you more colour and vibrancy in our now 96 pages and of course there is our new lifestyle pull-out at the centre. You will see a number of new columns - ‘The Jenuine Article’ by Jenny McGovern, a new health column from pharmacist Mary Leddy, a historical column by Jonathan Smyth and recipes by well-known chefs. Sports now starts from the back page, as is traditional with most compact newspapers, and this week runs to 25 pages to include extended coverage from the recent Cavan GAA trip to New York.

Three of Celtic Media Group’s newspapers already have successfully made the move to compact - The Westmeath Independent, The Connaught Telegraph and most recently, The Meath Chronicle. The Westmeath Examiner will follow over the next month.

While this is the most significant change to the Celt to date, our commitment to reporting the issues and stories that matter to local people in Cavan remains paramount. Local journalism serves communities in a way that no other media can – by fighting their causes, questioning those in authority and celebrating the successes and triumphs of readers both in print and on digital platforms.

With trusted content and a credible brand stretching back well over a century and a half, the Celt remains part and parcel of many people’s week the length and breadth of County Cavan and beyond. While these changes have necessitated a 20 cent cover price increase, readers are getting a bigger and brighter newspaper with lots more in it. It is the first price increase in over seven years.

We are absolutely convinced the changes made this week are the right move for our newspaper and we hope that they find favour with our readers and advertisers alike. We will be happy to receive any and all feedback on the changes.
