Cavan will never never never accept water charges
Cavan has sent a message to the government that it will 'never, never, never' accept the proposed controversial water charges.
Between 2-3,000 people are thought to have marched in Cavan Town with around 1,500 meeting on Market Square in the town to demonstrate with the Right2Water campaign in full swing. Protestors gathered on the square at 2pm yesterday (Saturday, November 1) as part of a national protest which saw, in total, an estimated 150,000 take to the streets.
Garda whistleblower John Wilson was one of several passionate speakers who said that the government thought they had a 'cash cow' with both the water and septic charges and called Minister for Finance Michael Noonan 'a buffoon'.
The Cavanman and indeed the assembled crowd was in full voice despite the damp weather and said: 'They are trying to divide and conquer at the moment, they are trying to drive a wedge between rural Ireland and urban Ireland. I just want to remind those in rural Ireland who might be complacent about this, the septic tank charge hasn't gone away you know!
'It's waiting in the background! If the government succeed in getting away with charging the hard-pressed people of Ireland the septic tank charge will make a come-back in another two years,' he warned.
'We have had enough. The people of Ireland will never accept your water charges. Never! Never! Never! If we do not get out and vote we are going to have the same shower back again. Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much,' he said.
