Man in critical condition after cavan crash
One man is in critical condition and another seriously injured after following a serious collision on the N3 Cavan to Dublin road outside Cavan Town earlier this afternoon.
The accident, which involved a van and a jeep, happened on the Cavan side of Poles Co-op, in the townland of Glasdrummond at around 2pm.
The drivers of both vehicles, aged 65 and 23 years old respectively have been taken to Cavan General Hospital where their injuries were described as serious.
The condition of the 65-year-old male was later upgraded to critical.
Motorists were advised to avoid the N3 Cavan to Dublin Road between Cavan town and Poles Co-op.
Traffic travelling from Dublin-Cavan and Cavan-Dublin are being advised to divert via Ballyjamesduff. Gardaí say the road will be closed for a number of hours to allow for the Forensic Collisions Investigation Unit to carry out examinations of the crash site.
Gardai are also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident to come forward with the information, contacting Cavan Garda Station at 049 43 68800.
