Shercock native Brendan McCahey (pictured), aged 38, will be appearing on the The Voice tomorrow evening (Sunday). Brendan is currently a full-time, stay-at-home Dad and a part-time musician at the weekends, fronting a wedding band and playing piano in restaurants. A member of Team Bressie, this Sunday’s show will see Brendan battle it out with a fellow contestant for a chance to be in with a coveted spot on the live shows.
Brendan lets us in on what The Voice experience has been like so far. “It’s been full on,” he laughs. “There’s a lot of work to do between deciding on songs and making trips up and down to Dublin for rehearsals, it’s quite surreal but I’m loving it.”
Brendan sailed through his blind audition with his take on 'Starman’, by David Bowie. The competition stands now with 48 contestants left. The four coaches now have a team of 12 acts each, each coach must now divide their team into duos and set them a song that they must sing together. The duos battle it out on stage in front of a live audience.
Although he cannot reveal who he is battling against or the song that they must sing on Sunday’s show, Brendan says: “It’s great to be on Team Bressie, he is in touch with us all the time, whether it be over email, the phone or in person. He has a great knowledge of the industry, he’s had to work hard to be where he is today and he’s passing on a lot to us all.”
Tune into The Voice of Ireland, RTE One, 6.30pm this Sunday, March 9, to see how Brendan fare’s in the battle stage.
