Free Ham Sandwiches this weekend!

Yes you read right, free Ham Sandwiches this weekend. Meteor award winning band Ham Sandwich return to Cavan for two free gigs this Saturday, October 19 and they are hoping to draw a larger crowd than their last visit. The band’s vocalist & guitarist Podge McNamee told the Celt “We supported Aslan once in Cavan town and I think there was about ten people there.”
Ham Sandwich, now regulars on the Irish music scene have notched up several festival dates since they last played in Cavan. They really came to national attention with the use of their song “Models” on the ‘Discover Ireland’ televison and radio ads. A focal point of their gigs is the element of fun and their use of colourful props, it really isn’t a Ham Sandwich performance without several confetti cannon explosions and giant balloons. Podge tells the Celt “We focus on trying to get the crowd going, our music is really catered for fun, both for us and the audience, and I think that’s what has kept us going for so long. Our gigs are always chaotic...but in a good way.”
The band have been concentrating on writing and recording their third album, a follow up to the critically aclaimed ‘White fox’ and Podge tells the Celt that they’ve had to put the breaks on the number of gigs they perform. “In terms of gigs, we were deliberatly quiet this year because we realised the more we gig the less time we have to write the album. We are putting our all into this one and we’re being really fussy because we really want to showcase ourselves.” With a provisional release date for the new album pencilled in for April 2014 the band are quietly confident that this will be their best yet.
Podge exclusively reveals to The Anglo Celt that they’re going to debut a brand new song at their Breffni Park gig. “I personally think, and hopefully the crowd does too that it is one of our best songs to date.” When asked what can Cavan expect from a Ham Sandwich performance Podge wryly responds “Confetti explosions, lots of fun and some truly terrible jokes from myself.”
Eleanor Shanley and De Dannan will grace the Gig Rig in The Egg Market on Friday, October 18 at 9.30pm. Other artists who will join Ham Sandwich on the Gig Rig on Saturday, October 19 from 9pm are Bipolar Empire, a folk infused rock and roll band from Dublin and for the younger audience Fresh Ré, the band who shot to fame when their cover of Rhianna’s ‘We found love’ went viral.
