Fans of '90s Cavan band The Would Be’s rejoice! The band are to release their long-awaited album 'Beautiful Mess’ on Friday, October 11, with a launch party in The Academy, Dublin.
The Would Be’s formed in 1989 and enjoyed chart success in the early '90s - they were championed by the late BBC radio maestro John Peel and their songs were regularly elevated to 'single of the week’ status in NME and Melody Maker. Hits such as 'I’m hardly ever wrong’ and 'My radio sounds different in the dark’ epitomised the near perfect indie-pop sound of the popular band.
Kingscourt native Aideen O’Reilly, who provides the powerful brass section for the band, spoke to the Celt about the upcoming launch.
“We’re very excited about the launch on Friday. It does feel slightly surreal to be back in the music business after twenty years.”
The album is already garnering positive reviews and has been named as RTÉ One’s album of the week. Speaking of the recording process, Aideen said:
“We rehearsed a lot and as a result we were able to go into the studio ready for action. We had the whole album recorded in just over a week.”
The Would Be’s will embark on a mini-tour in mid-October, they play Galway, Limerick, Leitrim, Dundalk, Cork and Dublin. When asked whether there would be a home coming gig for Aideen she replied:
“We would love to to a gig in Cavan - it is my homeplace after all. We’ll definitely try to arrange a date on the tour.”
The Would Be’s launch 'Beautiful Mess’ in The Academy Dublin, Friday October 11, 7pm.
Tickets are €10 and can be bought on The Academy website.
