Widow of murdered detective receives remembrance medal
The wife of murdered Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe received a medal of remembrance today in honour of his sacrifice for the force.
The 41-year-old father of two was murdered last January, when a gang ambushed the Kilnaleck man and his partner at a credit union in Lordship, just a mile from his home.
This morning at Dublin Castle, his widow Caroline and two children were presented with the remembrance medal at a garda memorial service.
Minister for Justice Alan Shatter and Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan attended the annual event for the 87 officers who lost their lives in the service of the State.
Mr Shatter described the murder as an unspeakable crime, while Commissioner Callinan described it as a terrible event that was still very raw.
