Cavan win Tidy Towns award

Cavan town has taken the county title in the national Tidy Towns Award 2012 - making it the fourth consecutive year for the county town to take the honours. Cavan scored 284 out of a possible 400 marks in the judging for this year awards, which are sponsored by SuperValu. Redhills came second in the county with 280 marks with Gowna in third place on 268 marks. In all 13 towns and villages in County Cavan entered the awards this year. The overall award was won by Abbeyshrule village in neighbouring County Longford and was presented by the Minister for the Environment & Local Government, Phil Hogan, at a ceremony in The Helix in Dublin just before lunch. While Cavan town itself enjoyed its triumph, there was further successes for Redhills, which won the National Award in the Repak sponsored Best Bring Bank Award, and for Mullagh, winning the Endeavour Award for increasing their overall points score by almost 7.6% compared to 12 months previous.
