The Strypes go for gold at Katie's homecoming

One of Cavan's most promising upcoming young bands are set to bask in Olympic Gold later today (Monday) after they were asked to play as part of boxing hero Katie Taylor's homecoming. The five young men of The Strypes, who have played major festivals and TV chat-shows in their burgeoning rise to success will take the stage for gold medallist Taylor's homecoming to Bray at 8.30pm, just before the festivities wrap up with a massive fireworks display. Ten thousand people from all over Ireland already gathered in Bray earlier last week to watch Katie add Olympic gold to her four world and five European championship tiles to her list of achievements. Thousands others are now expected to line the streets of the Wicklow town later today to celebrate Taylor and fellow Olympic boxer Adam Nolan along with coaches Pete Taylor and Zauri Antia. Meanwhile, a welcome home ceremony is also expected in Mullingar for John Joe Nevin, attached to Cavan boxing club, who will be proudly displaying his own medal, the silver which he won last Saturday night.
