Diocese meeting snub for Brady, say reports
Cardinal Sean Brady has reportedly suffered a "new blow" after a small minority of priests turned up for a "meeting organised as a show of support" for him. The Irish Independent this morning (Friday, May 18) reports that just 20 out of 150 priests in the Armagh Archdiocese invited to attend the gathering actually showed up - "with many privately voicing concerns about his leadership". The under-fire Cardinal has kept a low profile in the past 10 dyas after the scandal over the BBC documentary 'This World: The Shame of the Catholic Church', which claimed he failed to inform the parents of children named by then 14-year-old victim Brendan Boland who were being abused by Fr Brendan Smyth. The paper quotes a spokesperson for Cardinal Brady as saying the meeting, held on Friday, was poorly attended due to "short notice".
