Anglo-Celt Rehab Cavan Person of the Year 2010 nominees - Carmel Dalton

Carmel Dalton from Carrickane, Cavan says she is honoured to be even nominated for the Cavan Rehab Person of the Year. There are many ways to raise funds and "when you enjoy organising and hosting events for very worthy causes as I do, it never feels like a task or a burden. It is in fact something I quite look forward to doing", she says. Carmel enjoys being involved in the community - when she lived abroad for some years - and since she moved to Cavan. She thrives in doing something that enables her to give back to society to help those less fortunate in their time of need. She has organised charity events, such as fashion shows, colour me beautiful nights, tea dances and house parties, proving that fund-raising can be both enjoyable and beneficial. For the last eight years, Carmel has organised the gala dinner dance in aid of St Christopher's Hospice, and the support for that has gone from strength to strength. The organising begins in October when she contacts the hotel, bands, media, sponsors, printers and advertisers. The night raises funds for the maintenance and development of services, the provision of specialist equipment and the upkeep and development at St Christopher's, and contribute towards patient comfort. Carmel has also participated in organising a fund-raising night for the Laura Lynn Hospice Foundation and raised funds for numerous other charities over the years. She thoroughly enjoys fundraising and wishes to thank all the people at large for their generosity over the years. She is humbled by the recognition here tonight, she says.
