An Awareness Day to highlight European Antibiotic awareness campaign will be held in the foyer of Cavan General Hospital on Wednesday, November 26 between 12 and 4pm. The purpose of this campaign is to raise public awareness on how to use antibiotics properly. Antimicrobial Pharmacist Diana Hogan Murphy said: 'It is important to highlight that antibiotics are effective only against bacterial infections, and have no effect on viruses such as the common cold or flu. At the awareness day the public will be encouraged to participate in information discussions and complete a fun crossword on antibiotics.' The awareness day is being hosted by the Infection Prevention and Control Team in Cavan and Monaghan Hospital Group. Workshop on addiction The general public, especially people with concern and those who are curious about addiction issues are invited to an interactive Town Hall meeting on Saturday, December 6, from 3pm to 5pm. The meeting will be an information workshop on addiction in its various forms, with a view to finding a common ground for a better living. It is intended that this meeting will explore other workable solutions and make proposals to relevant agencies for further action. Speakers will be drawn from a wide range of interests in addictions including Garda Siochana, HSE Northeast Regional Task Force on Drugs, family Support Services and Cavan VEC. New Choir Seasonal Concerts by the New United Choir and Praise Band of the Cavan Presbyterian Churches take place in Rockcorry on Saturday and Bellasis Church, Lisgrey, on Sunday afternoon. For those who love music of all kinds, and Gospel Music in particular, the United Choir and Praise band, conducted by Rev. Dr. Jean Mackarel, are presenting a feast of spiritual music, readings and drama in their 'Songs of Praise and Bible Drama Concert.' The concert programme is coming next to Rockcorry Presbyterian Church, Co. Monaghan, at 8pm, on Saturday, November 29 and the wider community is invited, Entry is free, and a free will offering will go to the Building Fund at Rockcorry following the completion of the beautiful new church hall facility. The Choir plan to present a shortened version of their 'Spiritual Songs and Bible Drama Concert' at Bellasis Church, three miles from Virginia (on the Cavan side of Lisgrey Restaurant), at 3pm on Sunday afternoon, November 30, followed by tea in the church hall. Entry is free but a free will offering will go towards recent repairs and redecoration of the cosy little church hall at Bellasis. Ciorcal Comhrá Glór Bhréifne"s weekly Irish conversation group will convene on the following Wednesday nights, in the Farnham Arms Hotel, Cavan, at 9pm November 26, December 3, 10, 17 and January 14. Adults who are fluent and not so fluent in Irish are welcome to attend. The session takes place for about an hour and a half in the restaurant area of the hotel. The conversation is directed by a focused theme/language games. A cup of tea/coffee is also available. Participants who attend 50% or more of the weekly Ciorcal Comhrá, during the year (2008-2009) will be in a position to avail of a certain number of Gaeltacht scholarships to attend Irish language summer courses. Johnston Central Library Conversational Irish Class a weekly beginner"s Irish language/conversation class takes place every Monday in Johnston Central Library, Farnham Street, Cavan from 1.15 to 2pm. The group enjoy quizzes, games and readings through the medium of Irish in a friendly and relaxed environment. The Backyard A Pre-Christmas Craft Fair will be held at the Backyard, Moynehall House, Cavan on Saturday, December 6 from 10am to 5.30pm. Home baking with Christmas cakes, puddings, wood crafts, handmade jewellery, paintings Christmas trees and Christmas wreaths will feature. Admission is free. The Cavan Set Dancers Christmas Set Ceili will take place on Sunday, December 14 with music by the Glenside Ceili Band. There"ll be dancing from 3pm to 6pm with afternoon tea served. Pierce Turner Pierce Turner is playing at the Black Horse Inn, Cavan on Wednesday of next week, (December 3) at 8pm. Earlier in the day he will conduct a workshop with the music students at Cavan Institute. United Hearts A mini vigil of reparation to the United Hearts of Jesus and Mary takes place every first Friday in St. Clare"s Adoration Chapel. Vigil will commence at 8pm with mass at 8.30pm and will conclude at 12 midnight. Next vigil will be on December 5. Oliver St. Felim"s NS., Cavan will present "Oliver" in Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 December at 7.30pm. Admission by ticket only. Multicultural Network Cavan Multicultural Network meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7pm and membership is free and open. Cavan Wheelchair The Cavan Wheelchair Association will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 3, in the Resource Centre, Corlurgan Business Park, Ballinagh Road, Cavan, at 8.30 pm.
